Serious Blogger, Take 3
Welcome Back! Thanks for visiting!
I have tried to be a serious blogger two times before.
Of course, anyone who knows me knows I am far from serious.
I am occasionally passionate. For instance, I am passionate about my children’s education. But even then, I think all learning should be fun and not stuffy and serious.
So I am taking a cue from my friend, Allison, who blogs to “find a little joy” in the days that make up this life. (http://oliveplants.wordpress.com)
And that is exactly what has waylaid me—TWICE. The stuff of life. The little things. The daily things.
Someone once said that we should not be waiting for the big moments in life but enjoying the minutes that make up each day.
So now I am on a roll. It just takes a few minutes to record a few minutes of our lives right? And thankfully almost NONE of it is serious.
For starters, I can try to explain my 7 year old.
George is a unique person. Being the youngest of 4 boys is not easy, but he holds his own though. Some of his first words were, “I’m alright, I’m OK!” as he bounced off the concrete wall in an effort to keep up with the big boys.
He is our only child to have imaginary friends including an imaginary girlfriend named Tara. That is a sign of intelligence right??? Creativity??? Something positive???
Today on the way to school he said, “Mom, I like it when the windshield wipers do that because it looks like a Bible opening.”
Even though he can’t see past the windshield, he can find God in our day. I am too distracted by looking at everything past the windshield. It really does take the eyes of a child.
But before you fast track him to Divinity School, we still have a lot to clear up. Like his name.
The other day in Bible class, the teacher was going through the books of the Bible and said the word Galatians.
George raises his hand and says, “That is my middle name.”
Classroom quiet. . .His teacher stares at him thinking: I think I would have remembered that one from the permanent files.
But she thinks fast on her feet gives him a chance to reconsider.
“Really George? Your middle name is Galatians?”
“Yes, it is in the Bible.” Matter-of-fact though duh may have been implied.
She goes on to review some other books of the Bible, and that is when she says Samuel.
“Oh, Oh, THAT is my middle name. Yep, it is Samuel.”
(Collective sigh of relief from other first graders who were thinking that George’s parents didn’t really like him and must have been somewhat mad when he was born to give him a name that is impossible to learn to spell like Galatians.)
His teacher knows how I like all things UNserious, so she relayed this to me via facebook. I asked him about it later.
“Yeah, I just got confused.”
I puzzled my puzzler and never could quite understand how he got THAT confused. But that is OK because I really need more blog topics and nothing like that will probably be recorded ANYWHERE else on the internet.
So I cut him some slack. After all I get confused too. Spending too much time looking outside the windshield instead of enjoying and recording what is going on right in front of me.
So I set a goal for this Christmas—Enjoy every single minute of it.
And I hope you do, too!
